The Slovenian network of Intergenerational Associations for quality ageing was established in 2002. It is composed of eleven local Intergenerational Associations and one of them, the Intergenerational Association of Ljubljana, has six sections. All together, there are more than 400 volunteers and more than 130 intergenerational groups that comprise the Network.
The aim of all Associations for quality ageing is to contribute to a better quality of life in local community in terms of quality ageing and wellbeing of all three generations. The aim is achieved by increasing inclusion of old people and reducing their loneliness (e.g., intergenerational volonteering), by helping people get new habits and knowledge, that is helpful to sustain a quality ageing (multiplier programs) and by strengthening the local network that supports old people (training for family and other informal carers, organizations of local stakeholders meetings etc). In programs, people from the middle and young generations get involved in lives of old people. This is opportunity for them not only to learn about old age and prepare for their old age, but also to learn solidarity, one of the things that makes human beings so special.
